Lee's Diary:
Yesterday, I worked all afternoon trying to catch up on missions. I told my contacts I would be attending a funeral and would be gone for a few days. Nobody complained.
Last night I went bowling with Pookstein and some other friends. That was fun. I would have liked to hang around more but had to pack and get some sleep.
I caught the train at six this morning and then transfered to the bus in Amherst. I finally got to Ridgeback at 8pm. What a loong trip.
My parents and Joey met me at the bus station. Brian didn't but he was home when I got there. I talked with them all for a while and now I am going to bed. I am wicked tired and have so many things to do.

My Toons 22/10/07
These are my main COH toons (characters):
Gromar is my main character. He is a level 38 Ice Armor/Battle Axe Tanker. He is working on two story arcs in Founder's Falls and Brickstown. I plan to do some police missions in Founder's when he reaches level 40. I also plan to take him to the Rikti War Zone (RWZ). He will narrate more stories in this blog.
Corvalis just reached level 29 (Claws/Regeneration Scrapper) and finished the last Striga Isle solo missions. He is still working out of Croatoa, Independence Port, and Talos Island. Yesterday he got the Atlas Medallion.
Stocker is a level 23 Katana/Invulnerability Scrapper. He just finished the Faultline series of story arcs and is working Independence Port, Talos, and Striga. Stocker will learn Stealth as his next skill - if possible. As a Super Jumper he is vulnerable to attacks when he lands.
Bubblegummer is a level 18 Ice/Ice Blaster. He is working with contacts in Skyway City, Steel Canyon, and Faultline. Playing a blaster is a good way to take a break from the melee characters. The character is also fun because I tend to write a lot when I play Lee. Not everything I write is game related but I still want to get it down because it's part of his story.

Death And Drugs
Lee's Diary:
Joey called last night and he was upset. He told me Sherman Baines died in a car accident yesterday. That's sad. Sherm was a good guy and I knew him most of my life.
There was a "Rock Party" out at the old quarry. The redneck kids go there to drink and throw their beer bottles at a big slab of rock. They've been doing this for years.
Joey went to the party yesterday with Sherman and his girlfriend. Joey wants to buy Sherm's pickup and Sherm was going to let him test drive it. (I don't know why Joey is all hyped about a truck when he has to wait to get his license. I think he just wants to hang around with the older guys).
Sherm was drinking at the party but Joey said he wasn't drunk. He and his girlfriend left early and Joey was going to go with them but Sherman hinted they wanted some privacy. Joey asked around and somebody offered a ride back to town.
About an hour after Sherm left Joey and his ride headed to town. They had to stop because the road was blocked by police cars and ambulances. Sherman's truck was wrapped around a tree.
The cops said that the girl had survived but was hurt. Sherman was dead. They asked if he had been drinking. Joey said he was dazed because he could have been in that accident too.
I liked Sherm. He was my team's "assistant student coach" for the last few summers. When I got my powers he was one of the few people who didn't seem bothered by them. This is all so sad.
I had trouble sleeping last night. I had a mission to take care of this morning so I was awake and out early. I kept wondering if Sherman had been too drunk to drive. He could hold his liquor - but still. Does it matter? Who would have stopped him from driving? Probably no one.
My mission took most of the morning to complete and it went well. By lunchtime I was tired again but I had things to do before I went home. I had lunch in a cafe in Skyway City. The owner had a TV on and I watched the news.
Most of the news was boring but one story bothered me. Two high school students were found dead this morning at the school. They had overdosed on Superadine - the drug that trolls use.
I've fought trolls and they're tough. They don't even seem human any more. The supa-trolls are gross and often run around smashing things during troll raves. They are humungous and can be dangerous.
The trolls were raving when I was heading home. Just seeing them made me angry. I knew they had nothing to do with Sherm but their habits probably influenced those two students. I decided to let things go and just head home when I saw a problem.
A supa-troll was running down the street and barreled right over a woman. She screamed and threw her shoe at it - hitting it in the back. The troll turned around and charged her. She ran.
I fired off some iceballs at the troll and ran to help the woman. Both shots hit the troll and he came at me. I don't know much of what happened next but I fought the troll hand to hand. I was in a rage and forgot all of my usual tactics. At some point the troll and I knocked each other out.
When I came to I was laying on my stomach and the woman was shaking me. She was relieved I was okay. She thanked me before she left. I looked at the troll and decided to not call the cops. It wouldn't help anyway. Supa-trolls are too far gone to understand laws or survive in prison. (That's what I was told). Mostly I just didn't care whether it lived or died.
I made it home okay and feel better now.

Teen Heroes
Lee's Diary:
Sunday Oct. 14
I went to the dance last night at 8 and stayed until it was over at 1. I had an awesome time and danced with some guys!!!!
The dance was put on by Teen Hero magazine to celebrate their first anniversary. There were some speeches and awards given.
The Hero of the Month award went to Kid Freak - one of the guys who took on the Hellions in Perez Park and arrested many of them. The Hellions had stormed a wedding and both the bride and groom were killed. Arresting criminals is everyday work but the newspapers liked the story I guess.
There is an interview with Kid Freak in the latest issue. I was interviewed too but mine didn't get printed. I wondered if it was because I was a runaway but I found out from the reporter that mine would have been printed if there had been space.
There was a funny moment when a guy named Jonstarr received the "Most Determined New Hero" award. Jonstarr said that he had been defeated six times during his first mission and quit being a hero to help run his family's restaurant. Food was easier to levitate than villains. The woman asked Jonstarr to use his powers and levitate the award instead of taking it from her by hand. Jonstarr concentrated and her dress went up instead of the award! She yelped and held it down and everyone laughed.
The music was great but many freakpunks (including Kid Freak) left because it was too lame by their standards. They have no taste anyway.
I met lots of new friends and sat with them. This guy named Tankboy sat with his "harem" (his term) of girls and sang dirty songs. Another named Pookstein (Reggie Pook) showed us magic tricks.
Pookstein is nice. He's 18 and gay too. I danced with him a couple of times and had fun. One of his friends said "Watch out Pooky he's Jailbait!". We laughed but I could have killed the jerk.
I had an awesome time and was too excited to sleep when I got home. I hope to hang out with my new friends.
Notes:
Kid Freak, Pookstein, and Tankboy are characters of mine. Jonstarr is just a name I created for this piece.
I played Kid Freak on a street hunting team in Perez Park. We all got the badge for defeating Hellions and I got enough experience to go up two levels - all for a few hours work.

Street Hunting
Lee's Diary:
The last few days have been busy. I have been getting lots of streethunting missions. I seem to have fought everything from Outcasts in Boomtown to Vazilok in Faultline. Most of the missions haven't been too bad but the Vaz one sent me to the hospital. Faultline is tough for me right now but luckily I was asked to test a new taser weapon and that helped me clear up my last few street missions.
I have to go. I am off to a dance put on by Teen Hero magazine.
Tactics:
Street hunting missions can be tough because the enemies aren't geared for a character's level. Enemies and levels are determined by the neighbourhoods in each zone. They may be five or more levels above or below your character's.
If the enemies are your level or lower then the street missions will be easier but you'll get less experience. If the enemies are too tough you can drop the mission or combine it with a "doorway" (inside) mission. Police scanner missions are good for this.
Missions come in various types:
Combining missions - If you get a regular mission or another street hunting mission with the same villain group your 'kills' count for both missions as long as the zone and neighbourhood requirements are met. You can also combine missions with other players if you are on a team. (This works for all missions you have in common).
Temporary powers - Sometimes you get temporary powers for a mission. They can help you finish a tough street hunting mission. Bubblegummer had to test a taser against a villain type. He used it for all of his street hunting in Faultline and then finished the mission it was supplied for. When he called his contact the power disappeared. I'm not sure he would have survived without the taser so holding off calling was a great idea.

Lee Sends An Email
Joey!
Dude, thanks for the letter. I tried calling when I heard you were back from holidays but communications were messed up (probably due to Rikti interference).
I just made Security Level 14 and got my Super Speed certification. I am soooo fast now - even when I activate Stealth. Learning Stealth was one of the best decisions I ever made. It's saved my butt many times. The only problem is it slows me down. Now I can get to missions without worrying whether any crooks have gotten away.
I saw the wildest thing the other day. I was in that dimension called Pocket D and I heard that whining sound Rikti teleporters make. I immediately went on edge and then relaxed 'cause the place is neutral and I have seen Hellions and other crooks there. Anyway, I found a bar with a big cage in it and there were Rikti Monkeys fighting each other in it. It was hilarious!
Today I was fighting something much less exciting: Vazilok. Those creeps and their zombies are tough and smell really bad. :) One zombie almost got me but I fed him some ice balls. I haven't been defeated since those Circle fanatics sent me to the hospital.
Don't tell my mom - she'ld freak - but I thought I was dead when one of those cultists sliced my chest open. I knew heroes were teleported when defeated but didn't really believe it until I woke up in the hospital. I was healed and didn't have any scars. Even my clothes had been repaired. If that happened in Ridgeback I would be dead now or mangled for life.
When I came out of the hospital I saw a guy wearing nothing but a bath towel. With a straight face I said, "Nice costume." He laughed and said he had been drinking and fell in the shower. Luckily he was teleported to the hospital. I should have asked him his security level and whether he had to pay debt. :)
I got a new contact today. I wonder if he's good looking. And no, I haven't met anyone yet. Give me time.
You'ld like the eyecandy down here too. You might find some of the girls hard to handle though. Some of them could tie you in knots. Hehehe
I have to go. Ttyl.
Lee aka Bubblegummer.
Notes:
Pocket D is another dimension characters can travel to by teleporting or using gates in Paragon City and the Rogue Isles. The bar Lee mentions is The Monkey Fight Club.
The Rikti are aliens that have attacked the Earth.
Stealth - I like this power because it makes it harder for enemies to see your character. This helps on the street as well as in missions. If you use all your healing inspirations fighting on the way to a mission you may not have enough to keep you alive once you get there.
Superspeed - SS is one of the travel powers characters can get at level 14. It allows a character to run very fast. This is the first time I've tried SS. I have several characters who have Flight and one with Super Jump. Travel powers do make it easier to get around.

The Ambush
Gromar's Story:
I had just finished a mission and I was tired. I decided to phone my contact rather than meet with her. I stood in a quiet spot in the train station in Founder's Falls. I didn't expect any problems because the stations are fairly secure and are protected by police bots.
I only talked with my contact for a few minutes. We discussed the mission and roughly planned our next move. After the call ended I checked the police scanner to see if there was anything going on. If there was, and it wasn't urgent, I could accept the mission and deal with it in the morning.
As I scanned the reports I heard the police bots fire their lasers. I looked up and saw a Nightwolf climb onto the exit ramp. He saw me and charged!
I met the beast in the middle of the room and we fought. I could hear people getting off the train scream in panic. I wanted to protect them as well as myself and I hit the werewolf as hard and as fast as I could.
In less than a minute the fight was over and I assured people things were okay. Police arrived and I gave a brief report and promised to give a detailed one in the morning. I finally got on the train and made it home without any more excitement.
I should have known The Council would be monitoring my contact's phone. They have an uncanny ability to keep tabs on heroes and almost always attack when they feel someone is "interfering" in their affairs. I'll have to remember that their werewolves are fast enough and strong enough to get into the train stations without going near the police bots.
You can't let your guard down in Paragon City.
Notes:
Train stations are usually safe places. Ambushes do occur around them but I had never seen a fight inside one - until now. During the fight one hero got out of the train. I didn't chat with her but I can imagine her surprise when she found herself almost walking into a battle.

Clearing Clockwork
Lee's Diary:
I've been getting a lot of missions dealing with Clockwork lately. Those robots are real pests because they crawl over buildings stealing metal and whatever else they need. They can be dangerous to anyone who gets in their way.
My first "street cleaning" mission was in Steel Canyon near the university. The Clockwork were on the rooftops of Subgenetics and neighbouring businesses. When I checked the area there weren't any robots around. I could have tried elsewhere but I knew I could handle what I found in this area. Furthermore I had other commitments and didn't want to get bogged down in a non-critical operation.
I teamed up with a fellow named Jason Atreides for a short time. He also had a quota to fill. We defeated several Clockwork and the others left the area. I went into Subgenetics to sell some of the stuff I found on the robots and they were happy to have someone helping out.
My second street mission was in Boomtown. I had never been there before and was appalled at the destruction I saw. The war was bad for Boomtown.
I found some Clockwork easily enough after I avoided the Trolls and Outcasts. (I like having Stealth!). Most of them scanned blue or white for me but there were four yellow Tesla Knights. They may have defeated me if a Defender (?) named Captain Torvec hadn't been passing by. He healed me and boosted my powers. I can see why so many teams advertise for Defenders.
These last few days have been busy and I am wicked tired.
Notes:
Scanned - in the game enemy names appear in different colours depending on how tough they are compared to your hero. The colours are gray, green, blue, white, yellow, orange, red, and purple. The difficulty ranges from Gray (easy) to Purple ( very difficult) with white being approximately your character's level.
In these stories a character scans by accessing a microchip brain implant (usually) or some inherent power.
Streethunting Missions (also called hunting or streetcleaning) - A character must defeat a specific number of enemies. The enemies may be from any zone, a particular zone, or even a specific neighbourhood within a zone.
Quota/Bounty - a rationale for the streethunting missions I use for my fiction.
Teams - if two people (or more) have the same streethunting the defeated enemies count for both of their missions.

Battle Royale
Gromar's Story:
I was going to a mission in Crey's Folly and met a horde of Freakshow as I hovered down to the mission entrance. They were tough but I defeated them. Freaks just need a a bit more convincing than other criminals.
When I finished the mission I decided to check out a historic site. I just started to read when I heard a shout and nine or ten Freaks came barreling around the corner of a ruined building. They surrounded me and I put my Whirling Axe skill to good use. There were Freaks flying everywhere.
During the fight I was thankful for another skill I have that transfers energy from my foes to me. I stayed fresh while they were stumbling with exhaustion. This is probably why I survived and they didn't.
I met with my contact and gave my report then went and sold confiscated salvage. I couldn't relax so I headed to Eden to check out historic sites.
I should have known things would happen because the zone is still "hot" for me. My visit was uneventful until I remembered there was an "unofficial" bounty on Paragon Protectors. I decided to hunt.
I searched out individuals or small groups and 'interrogated' them. If they attacked me they would be committing an offense and I could arrest them. (Of course arresting anyone while using a battle axe doesn't leave much to send to jail.) Protectors are very aggressive and arrogant. They all attacked me.
If I found a Protector in a large group I would taunt him and fly to the top of a building and fight him there. This kept the rest of the thugs away. This worked well for a couple of fights.
I decided to defeat one last Protector before heading home. I found one who looked about as tough as me but he was surrounded by about 10 Crey and a few Nemesis soldiers. I taunted him and went to a nearby rooftop. He followed and we proceeded to fight.
I hadn't seen a small hill beside the building and the others used it to get to the rooftop. Suddenly I was surrounded just as I had been in Crey's Folly. What followed was a long fight that consisted of defeat one thug, drive the rest back with Whirling Axe, steal energy, and repeat the process. Things got even more complicated when I knocked the Protector into a group of Devouring Earth.
Eventually I was the only one standing. I headed for the Founder's Falls gate and flew high to avoid any other confrontations. I wasn't seriously injured and wasn't as tense as before. I knew I would have a good sleep.

Gromar is my level 37 Ice/Battle-Axe Tanker.
"Bounty" - characters can earn badges for defeating large numbers of enemies.
"Historic Sites" - plaques that are needed for history badges.
"Hot" - areas where there are enemies that will attack your character. Enemies don't usually attack heroes five levels above their level unless provoked.

Gromar And Lusca
Gromar hovers over a ship that some of his teammates are on. He is covered in ice armor. The black mist is something cast by another character.
The team decided not to hunt Lusca that day.

Lee Sends A Letter
Story:
Dear Mom and Dad,
Thanks for sending the newspaper clip about me. I hadn't seen that one. And thanks for your kind words they made me feel good. I know you think I'm too young to be doing this but I know I have to be here.
I made Security Level 10 today! I am out of probation and am getting more important missions already. I'll owe hospital fees (we call them "debt") if I am defeated but I can handle that. The medical facilities here are amazing and we heroes are teleported to them when we get hurt. Don't worry Mom I haven't even got any scars! :)
I am renting a small bachelor suite at the Hotel Geneva. It's clean and reasonably priced - and close to the transit station in Galaxy City.
I am taking courses at a local college in my spare time so I can finish high school. They are going well.
I am doing okay for money too. I get paid for completing missions and I can sell anything I confiscate from criminals. I sold one item for $50,000!! at a consignment place called Wentworth's.
I'll try phoning tonight.
Love, Lee
Notes:
Lee is the first name of my hero Bubblegummer.
Defeat and Debt: When a hero is defeated he can be revived by others, use a self revival inspiration or skill, or get teleported to a hospital (or base). There is no debt (50% of experience) until level 10. For the purposes of my fiction debt will be explained as some type of user fee.
